Danfoss VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 Modbus register map
Frequency converter with a built-in RS-485 port that can run Modbus RTU. The Design Guide for FC 301 and FC 302 describes control word, bus reference, status word and main actual value registers, FC profile coils, and access to every drive parameter at ten times its number. This map lists the fixed area plus a representative set of monitor, motor, ramp, limit, communication and identity parameters; the full parameter list is in the Programming Guide.
- Protocol
- Modbus RTU (RS-485)
- Defaults
- Select Modbus RTU with 8-30 Protocol = [2] (takes effect after power off and on). Address 8-31 range 1 to 247, default 1 (Programming Guide p. 328). Baud rate 8-32 range 2400 to 115200 and parity 8-33 default even parity, 1 stop bit (Design Guide p. 183). Byte format: 1 start bit, 8 data bits, parity bit or none, 1 stop bit with parity or 2 without (Design Guide p. 183).

Address base. Design Guide 12.11.8 (p. 184) states that all Modbus data addresses are referenced to zero and that holding register 40001 is addressed as register 0000, and holding register 40108 as 006B hex (107). The register numbers in Table 12.16 (7, 9, 50000 and so on) are therefore taken as one-based, so the wire address is the printed number minus 1. Parameter registers are 10 x parameter number (12.12.1, p. 186), for example 3-12 is register 3120. 3-14 would then be 3140, but the guide's own example prints 3410 and 3411 for 3-14, which does not follow its rule and is treated as a typo. Danfoss' generic Modbus RTU Operating Instruction MG92B102 (section 4.1.13) gives a worked example for parameter 3-41: holding register 3410, and in the telegram D51 hex, which is 3409 decimal and matches register 3410 minus 1 (the same sentence prints 2809 for D51 hex, a decimal typo). That document does not name the FC 302. Coils are one-based the same way (coil 1 is address 0000). Coils 17 to 32 (reference) and 49 to 64 (main actual value) carry 16-bit values over coils and are not listed. Verify on the device by reading register 50200 (status word) and parameter 16-13 first. For example 1 in the manual (Control word coil: Preset reference select, low bit (LSB)) is address 0 on the wire.
Word order. Neither the FC 301/302 Design Guide nor the Programming Guide states the register order for 32-bit parameters, which use two consecutive registers starting at the printed address. The generic Modbus RTU Operating Instruction MG92B102 shows registers 40201 = 0x0102 and 40202 = 0x0304 reading as 0x01020304 (high word first) for Danfoss FC series drives, but it does not name the FC 302. Text parameters are read as 2 characters per register (up to 10 registers). Array parameters need the index set in register 9 and are not listed.
Modbus Poll and the Modbus protocol itself count from 0. The "Wire address" column is the number to type into Modbus Poll.

The register table has every column on this page. The blocks file imports into Modbus Poll. The template JSON holds the same blocks plus unit, scale and access for scripts.

Scale is the number to multiply the raw value by to get the unit. Types with more than one register (32 and 64-bit) follow the word order above.
Open in Modbus Poll
- Download the Modbus Poll blocks file.
- Open Modbus Poll, connect to the device and set its unit ID. The manual does not state the word order for 32-bit values. Check one known value (a voltage or a counter) and switch the setting if it reads wrong.
- In the blocks panel on the right, click Import CSV and pick the file. CSV import is a Pro feature. Without Pro, Modbus Poll polls the first 20 values of your blocks.
- The wire addresses are already in the file, so there is no 0-based or 1-based conversion to do.
Once the values look right, export the tag list to Ignition, Kepware, Node-RED, Home Assistant or Voltrus SCADA.
